HalifACT 2050: Acting on Climate Together is the Municipality’s long-term climate action plan to achieve net-zero GHG emissions by 2050 and help communities adapt to a changing climate. The HalifACT 2050 team shared a climate action plan update with Regional Council on January 14, 2020.
Heritage Gas has been working with HRM to help develop the recommendations, and we support their bold climate action plan. No single type of energy can achieve the goals set out in the plan. To achieve net-zero GHG emissions by 2050, we’ll need to transform how energy in N.S. is generated, distributed, stored, and consumed. We will need to improve energy efficiency and we will need cleaner energy sources to meet the energy demands of Haligonians. Natural gas innovations, such as renewable natural gas will play an important role in helping to accomplish this. As Halifax prepares to adapt to climate change, the natural gas distribution system will improve the energy resiliency in a time when the frequency and severity of storms increases.
We’re looking forward to working with HRM to implement their climate action plan. Our letter of commitment outlines a wide variety of ways that Heritage Gas, natural gas, and the gas distribution grid will assist Halifax in achieving our climate change goals.
